Represented by partner University of Limerick, the HighMag project took part in the 27th International Conference on Advanced Batteries, Accumulators and Fuel Cells (ABAF 27), held at the Brno University of Technology from 23 to 26 August 2026.
The annual four-day conference brings together electrochemists and battery specialists to discuss next-generation power sources. Sessions across the week focused on new battery materials, ionic liquids, corrosion control, and scaling up alternative chemistries for grid storage.
Researcher David McNulty represented the University of Limerick, presenting recent experimental work on metal–sulphur battery systems developed within HighMag. The presentation covered practical lab testing and material performance, drawing active interest from fellow researchers.
With European industry looking for safe, scalable alternatives to standard lithium-ion chemistries, events like ABAF 27 provide a useful setting to share findings, compare notes on cell behaviour, and keep post-lithium research moving forward.
