HighMag Research Featured at MagBatt VI × ELLIPSE Conference in Ulm

HighMag project partners joined leading international battery experts in Ulm, Germany, from 9 to 11 September 2026 for MagBatt VI × ELLIPSE. Organised by the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), the three-day event brought together two major conferences in the post-lithium battery community into a single joint forum.

 

The event focused on presenting and discussing state-of-the-art developments across the post-lithium field, covering materials synthesis, electrolyte formulations, interface behaviour, and advanced characterisation.

HighMag was well represented throughout the technical programme by researchers from KIT/HIU, AIT, and BIU. Maximilian Fichtner (HIU/KIT) opened the conference with welcome and opening remarks, setting the stage for three days of scientific exchange. In the technical sessions, Sibylle Riedel (KIT/HIU) presented work on the direct synthesis of Mg[B(hfip)₄]₂ electrolyte from elemental magnesium to support simpler, more sustainable processing. Duraisamy Ezhumalai (KIT/HIU) shared findings on tuning Mg²⁺ coordination using DPGDME as a co-solvent, demonstrating improved plating/stripping reversibility and faster interfacial kinetics.

 

Fellow project partners also delivered key technical presentations across the sessions. Federica Canale (AIT) detailed findings on MgMn₂₋ₓMₓO₄ spinel oxides, while Irshad Mohammad (AIT) discussed the performance of indium-coated magnesium foil in Mg(TFSI)₂ electrolytes. Tatiana K. Zakharchenko (BIU) presented research on Fe-C-N-P catalysts for near-neutral zinc–air batteries. Frank Dieter Pammer (HIU/KIT) also represented HighMag alongside colleagues from AIT and BIU, connecting with peers and following the latest developments across the post-lithium landscape.
