On 9 July, the HighMag team joined the online stage for the latest BATT-BRIDGE webinar, organised by the project RENOVATE. The session brought together researchers, industry experts, and European projects, including CIRCUBATT, ReUse Batteries, Revitalise, and STREAMS, to tackle one of the most important aspects of next-generation energy storage: sustainability and circularity.
Representing HighMag was Daniel Dias from Imperial College London, one of our key project partners. Daniel shared insights into how we are approaching sustainability assessments, ensuring that our magnesium-based battery designs are not just high-performing, but inherently safe, circular, and green from the very beginning.
Collaborative Steps Forward
Rather than working in isolation, the webinar was a fantastic opportunity to exchange ideas and compare methodologies with other brilliant EU-funded initiatives. To build a truly resilient, self-reliant battery value chain in Europe, we need to ensure that sustainability isn’t an afterthought, it must be built into the chemistry, life cycle assessments, and recycling strategies right from day one.
A huge thank you to RENOVATE EU for hosting us, to Daniel for representing the consortium, and to everyone who tuned in to join the discussion!
