The inaugural Irish Battery Research Conference (IBRC) took place on 9 September 2026 in the Analog Devices Building at the University of Limerick. Set up to bring battery specialists together from across Ireland, the event gave the national research community a dedicated space to share current work, swap ideas, and build new partnerships.
It was a great setting to share progress from HighMag. Representing project partner University of Limerick, Dr David McNulty presented updates on the project’s technical work, focusing on how biomass-derived carbons are being tested for metal–sulphur batteries.
The day drew a strong turnout from both academic labs and industry. Keynote speaker Prof. Patrik Johansson introduced the newly launched BATT-BRIDGE initiative, which connects Horizon Europe project teams to share knowledge and speed up the development of alternative battery technologies.
With contributions from major Irish research groups alongside industry teams from Analog Devices and Lumcloon Energy, the event showed plenty of momentum across the Irish battery landscape.
