The approach for the HighMag in a Nutshell

HighMag is a pioneering EU-funded project under the Horizon Europe programme, backed by CINEA – the European Climate, Infrastructure, and Environment Executive Agency. With the global drive for sustainable, low-cost battery solutions, HighMag is at the forefront of innovation, developing the next generation of Rechargeable Magnesium Batteries (RMBs).

The project focuses on two novel cathode chemistries – magnesium-sulphur and magnesium metal – combined with a new, protected powder-based magnesium anode. HighMag is paving the way for advanced energy storage in mobility and beyond.

OUR VISION

The vision for HighMag is to revolutionise energy storage, establishing rechargeable magnesium batteries (RMBs) as a superior, widely adopted alternative to current lithium-ion technology.

Our Mission

To accelerate the development of rechargeable magnesium battery (RMB) technology

by advancing its Technology Readiness Level (TRL) from TRL 2 to TRL 4. The project is committed to overcoming key scientific and technological challenges that currently limit RMB adoption.

To achieve this, HighMag is focused on:

Enhancing fundamental knowledge of battery

Enhancing fundamental knowledge of battery chemistry through advanced characterisation techniques and in-depth scientific analysis.

Delivering sustainable, manufacturable solutions
